A dozen charities will benefit from the Fifth Annual Owasso Evening of Charity, a service project and blood drive event, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday Aug. 10 at Owasso Mid-High School.
"It is going to be a busy night and we need everyone's help," said organizer Linda Kile. "No monetary donation is requested. All we want is their labor for two hours. There is something for everyone to join in on." Volunteers can choose to give blood or help with projects such as filling backpacks with school supplies for Owasso Community Resources, sewing blankets; crafting ornaments for St. Francis Pediatrics, pinning race tags for Multiple Sclerosis or making greeting cards for military personnel to assist the Blue Star Mothers.Free babysitting for children ages 18 months to 11 years will be available during the 2-hour period only. Other groups being assisted are:*YANA - lap blankets for women undergoing breast cancer treatment;*Project Linus Foundation - quilts for hospitalized children;*Diana's Angel Project - burial clothing for stillborn infants;*American Cancer Society - knitted hats;* Little Lighthouse - sewing bibs;*United Way - labeling pledge cards.Oklahoma Blood Institute will conduct a blood drive for ages 17 and over.
