Evening of Charity offers variety of ways to help others
By:

Adult volunteers are invited to lend a hand to a dozen charities during the fifth annual Owasso Evening of Charity from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, August 10 at Owasso Mid-High School.

Organizers hope to surpass last year's count of 155 participants. During the two hour time period, volunteers can choose to give blood or help with a number of different projects.

Free babysitting for children ages 18 months to 11 years will be available.

"Owasso is such a giving community, and when we all combine our efforts, the amount of work that can be accomplished in one evening is incredible," said event coordinator Linda Kile. "There is something for everyone to assist with including sewing, crafting, assembly - everyone can join in!"

Groups being assisted include:

*You Are Not Alone - lap blankets for women undergoing breast cancer treatment;

*Project Linus Foundation - quilts for hospitalized children;

*St. Francis Pediatrics - Christmas ornaments for the holiday tree;

*Diana's Angel Project - burial clothing for stillborn infants;

*American Cancer Society - knitted hats;

*Blue Star Mothers - greeting cards for military personnel;

*Little Lighthouse - sewing bibs;

*Owasso Community Resources - assembling school supplies;

*United Way - labeling pledge cards,

*Multiple Sclerosis - pinning race tags.

Oklahoma Blood Institute will conduct a blood drive for ages 17 and over. For more information, call 272-7639 or email owassovolunteers@sbcglobal.net
