Arvest Bank and Owasso Community Resources have joined forces to provide a backpack full of school supplies for children in need.

The bank at 76th Street North and U.S. Hwy. 169 is a designated donation station for OCR's annual Back-To-School Drive. OCR will give out the backpacks early next month.

"Our goal is to collect 1,250 backpacks full of supplies," said Jeannette North, OCR's executive director. "We also want parents to encourage their children to shop for a backpack for one of their peers who needs it."

Arvest Bank has jump started the effort by donating six fully-filled backpacks, according to Sara Guse, Arvest's branch manager.

For anyone wanting just to donate funds for supplies or backpacks, North said the total cost is $35 to equip a student with the back to school essentials.

Area churches are also participating in the drive, she said. Owasso's Ministerial Alliance is asking their church members to help provide school supplies.

Owasso School Superintendent Dr. Clark Ogilvie is pleased with the joint effort.

"This is the first year I've worked with OCR. I am amazed already," he said. "People take for granted that Owasso is affluent. There is a desperate need, not very large, but a number of people who do need help."

Depending on the elementary school between 4- to 18-percent of the students qualify for the system's discounted lunch program.

OCR and Arvest Bank hope to help 1,250 students head back to school in style.
